The weather was definitely not on our side. We left early at 7am hoping that we would stop along the way to catch, what we heard, are gorgeous sights. Instead we were left with thick, burly foggy grey skies that choked any vision of snow capped Southern alps, lush mountains of rainforests, or the glacial torquoise rivers. Our vision must’ve been so hazed that we missed our breakfast stop at the salmon farm. Don’t blame me, I was being Sleeping Beauty. Instead we stopped off at Haast, a little fishing village where we found this cafe stocked with early-rising fishermen. It was a little intimidating haha.
Then a miracle happened. The clouds broke and the sun shone through! Our weather forecasts were still saying that the rain was going strong and the clouds would be stubborn, but we caught a lucky break. We got to enjoy the blue and magenta of Lake Hawea and the bordering mountains. Hoorah!
Enjoy some drive by shootings..
We then finally made it to our next destination – Wanaka. Lake Wanaka and Hawea are both glacial lakes. They once existed together but has since formed their own separate entities. They probably fought too much and called for a divorce, but now I’m just speculating past the facts. I’m obviously delirious at the moment writing this, oops. Someone take me away from the keyboard.
We enjoyed the view but photos were difficult with the sun in front of us.
This little duck had just woken up from a nap. Even ducks have bad hair days, I feel you bro.
Most of the afternoon went out as I was bed ridden for a few hours in an immense amount of pain (we’re all ladies here, or know of one). Once I was feeling better, we strolled around the cute little shops that decorated the lake side and splurged a little. Then we went back to watch the sun set behind the mountains.
Because of the many hours I was stuck in the hotel room in pain… I was pretty pathetic on working towards my daily showcase. I present to you, an inexcusable excuse for my flora & fauna exhibition. I will make it up to you!
