The hotel we stayed at was so nice. It was the biggest hotel room I’ve seen for Japan. I got a suite that had a huge bath tub and bathroom, luggage wardrobe and a huge king sized bed. I enjoyed a face mask and bubble bath courtesy of the hotel too. Haha I really relaxed for the night. My body was so grateful for the down feather blanket that cuddled me at night too. We checked out at 11am and decided to feed our hungry stomachs with.. ‘Kushikatsu’ pretty much ‘fried skewers.’ It is very well known in Osaka.
Osaka tower… and below a mascot for the drug store. EVERYTHING IN JAPAN HAS A MASCOT. Everything has a character, everything is cartoonised, everything is so cute. SO CUTE! Okay went a bit nuts there but I just wanted to cuddle every logo I came across.
Like this one! How cute is the airport logo haha such a sleepy, docile looking thing. After walking around and eating ‘kushikatsu’ we had to head back to catch the bus to the airport. I was sad to leave Osaka as it also meant it was the end of group travels with Taiga and Yuri. They have been such great company, I really enjoyed it. They were also so patient with me in teaching Japanese. It has been a bit of a struggle as they don’t speak much English and my Japanese sounds like asshole.. but then that also meant we also improved a lot in each other’s languages and learned a lot.
At the airport we decided to enjoy some goodies. Mirashi is a sauce of soy sauce and sugar.. which we enjoyed with dango which is mochi (sticky rice) that’s been grilled.
This is a boiled pig skin thing that Okinawa is famous for… sounds and looks gross.
OVERLY LARGE FRUIT. How big are they! Look at that pear! And it was super expensive as well haha.
I bought some Kobe fromage cake and grabbed a green tea latte to enjoy together while enjoying the airport view.
It was gob-smacking delicious. I could’ve devoured more.
Beard Papa’s used to be in Brisbane – there was two stores but they’ve both gone!! People don’t realise how good it was, but I was happy to be able to reunite with it once more. Japanese people think of everything… they LOVE packaging and they also do so many little things that adds to great service. The lady asked me if I wanted an ice pack so it stayed cold until when I wanted to eat it. If you bought ice cream at the supermarkets they also can give you dry ice so it stays frozen until you get home. Little things like that.. isn’t it amazing?
Goodbye Osaka!
After I landed back in Tokyo, I was met at the arrival gates by my dad and Kay (his wife). They were so kind to take me to my new apartment home in Ebisu to drop off the luggage and then go walk around. We went and quickly met John the Scottish owner of What the Dickens! where I’ll be playing on Tuesday night with Tom Holliday. After that we were met with the difficult decision on what to eat for dinner. After exploring the Ebisu alleyways we decided on Yakitori. I was super happy as I love yakitori. We had chicken meat, meatballs, daikon (radish) salad, cabbage, shallots, sake (rice wine) and tea. What a great way to end the night!
P.s I ended up having the Beard Papa’s cream puff for breakfast this morning. Terrible timing but delicious.
P.p.s I’ve noticed that musicians and bartenders say ‘Ohayougozaimasu’ to each other (Good Morning). In Japan, as creatures of the night, they say Ohayougozaimasu not to mean good morning but to symbolise that they’ve started their work! Interesting aye?
