We started our day off at the bottom of East Tokyo with Sanjusangendo. That was extraordinary, we weren’t allowed to take photos. In the temple there are 1001 statues of Kannon, the goddess of mercy. It’s actually an amazing sight to behold due to simplicity and repetition.
We then met my old high school friend, Chynna and trekked up to Kiyomizudera temple. It had a lovely street full of yummy snacks and souvenirs on the way.
I just had.. to take a photo of the man in all his glory.
Couple photo shoots going on…
Unfortunately Kiyomizudera is getting renovated so there were sections that were covered in scaffolding. At least the main bit jutted out with no construction equipment visible.
Kiyomizudera is so amazingly beautiful. The structure is just crazy. That wooden lattice work underneath it holding it up looks so intricate. Drives my mind wild how people were able to do that long time ago.
Then we headed up through to Yasaka Shrine, going through the old preserved town area in the lanes of Higashiyama district. I love this wall piece that follows suit of the Sanjusangendo principle – simplicity and repetition.
We then made it to Yasaka shrine and then wandered through the Gion- district to head back home.
