J-Wave Radio & What the Dickens!

Thanks to a great long time fan and friend of my music. I got to visit the J-Wave Radio station 81.3FM the biggest in Tokyo.. streaming to over 1 million people at any one time. It was a huge radio station.. with some cool artefacts too. Like a signed surfboard by The Beach Boys.

Afterwards I went to Koenji as I heard it’s a very great second hand shopping place. It’s not like I need to buy all my clothes used.. but this whole year I’ve been buying nothing but used as it is cheap, way better quality and much more to my style than the tight, neon, midriff.. short shorts stuff going on in stores haha. So I went to check it out and found my haven. There were shops that heavily curated their items like the above.. so they were a lot more on the NOT A BARGAIN side but there were also a lot of shops that were great deals. Couldn’t believe it. Splurged a little.

Btw, go to Koenji Station and then turn right on the south exit 😉

And for once.. even the men had decent sized shops dedicated to them instead of the usual rack or two in the corner.

There were shops upstairs and downstairs and underground.. oh gosh heaven was everywhere.

I couldn’t help it.. I bought this number. It looks better on haha but I can’t wait to wear it.. maybe in a music video or a big show heeeheeee!

I even bought a great belt to wear, classic American style – just what I had been looking for online but it wasn’t made of polyurethane and cheap aluminum – this was sturdy.

A great $10 deal! $10 is actually usually quite high for me hahaha but I know I know, I’ve gotta let go of my stingy barriers and accept that it is still a great bargain.

photo 2

I LOVE THESE JEANS. They’re like boyfriend jeans without being too boyfriend or like mum jeans without being too mum. Perfect.. and even more perfect at the price. The back is really cool as well – I can’t wait to wear it. Worried about the ankles getting exposed to Japan winter but IT’LL BE WORTH IT.

I also got this jumper – the stringy colourful one next to the one I bought was also just $12. It’s from Australia and 100% wool and I actually no kidding, saw the same thing at the airport before I left for Japan and it costed like $180! Great condition if anyone wants to get it at Koenji hahahahhahaa and maybe sell it black market in the airport for half the price.

Anyway, I didn’t even get to finish the street so I’ll have to go back. From what I could tell, there was a lot more to scrape through.. but maybe I shouldn’t go back.. because I might go a little nuts on the shopping.

View from the radio station.. what a sight!

Tonight I, an Australian lass, was playing with a Polish cowboy in a Scottish bar in Japan. What a worldly mouthful! It was also streaming live on webcam!

My dad used to run a bar before he retired and a lot of his regular customers came out tonight to come and support me. That was very nice of them and I am happy to know that my dad was in great company at his pub. Tom & I did a few jams – he played harmonica on one of my songs, did solos on one of my favourite covers and then I pathetically did some back up singing on his last song. And with a good ol’ steak pie and chips to fill my stomach, well you could say I was a happy lady.

Afterwards, I stayed out way too late. I hung out with the sound engineer (my dad’s friend) and some new friends I had made. I mainly was curious at the culture of weekday outings in Japan. It was a bloody Tuesday! Everyone else had work the next day and yet they were out, hammered, until 5am. It’s insane, I don’t know how they do it. I also got to see a side of the Japanese culture I had never seen before… when the clock strikes midnight, a different side seeped through the conservative facade.

I found it interesting because through my many visits here and growing up here a little, I had never really seen this side of Japanese society before. I’m not explaining it very well because I don’t know how to really but I was really enjoying watching people haha. I also enjoyed seeing things that you see the exact same in other cultures. Animal Kingdom.
